Deionisation (DI)

Greenchain Group offers a range of Deionisation (DI) solutions designed to deliver ultrapure water. With our membrane-based DI technology, we significantly reduce or eliminate the use of chemical regenerants, effectively minimising chemical waste. Membrane DI systems also operate at higher recovery rates, conserving source water and showcasing superior energy efficiency. Regardless of the technology chosen, our DI systems prioritise reliability, affordability, and operational efficacy.

As a Turnkey Provider, we manage everything from process design to manufacturing, installation, and ongoing maintenance, ensuring a seamless experience. Our tailor-made approach also ensures that you receive a DI solution designed to your specifications without compromising on the quality of the product water.

How does Deionisation (DI) work?

Deionisation (DI) is a water treatment technology used to remove ions and impurities from a liquid stream to produce ultra-pure water. This highly specialised technology is successfully applied using membranes or resin exchange systems, or a combination of the two. We design multi-pass membrane or resin exchange systems for most industrial applications.

Membrane-based DI has the advantage of reliable mechanical rejection, which ensures more comprehensive removal of contaminants whilst negating the need for chemicals and hazardous waste disposal. Resin-based systems are highly selective and well-suited for further polishing.

Benefits of DI for your business

Ultra-Pure Water

DI removes dissolved ions to produce low-conductivity, high-purity water for critical applications such as pharmaceuticals, electronics manufacturing and steam generation.

Protects Critical Equipment

Reducing dissolved minerals helps limit scale and deposits in pipes, boilers and process equipment, supporting reliable operation and protecting sensitive downstream systems.

Consistent Process Water Quality

Provides controlled water quality for processes where ionic impurities can affect product quality, equipment performance or production outcomes.

Advanced Polishing

DI can be used as a final polishing stage after multi-pass RO, using membrane, electrochemical or resin-based technologies to achieve the water quality required for demanding applications.

Integrated Treatment Solutions

Greenchain designs DI systems to work alongside RO and other membrane technologies, creating a treatment process matched to your feed-water quality, required output and operational needs.

Membrane Technology Expertise

With specialist expertise in membrane-based water treatment, Greenchain engineers DI solutions around your process requirements.

DI System Investment
Cost Of Deionisation

DI system costs vary widely depending on:

  • System capacity

  • Water quality required (e.g. Type II Grade)

  • Additional features

  • Site-specific requirements

Typically, membrane-based systems prove higher in CapEx, but lower in OpEx. Reach out to our team for an accurate cost estimate on a technology suited to your requirements, budget, and unique needs.

DI Maintenance & Servicing
Keep Performing Optimally

Maintenance requirements for deionisation systems depend on the exact technology selected and the quality of water being produced.

Resin-based DI systems typically require regular chemical top-ups, resin regeneration or recharging, and periodic resin replacement. Ongoing water quality monitoring helps ensure the resin continues to deliver the required level of deionisation.

Membrane-based DI systems generally require less frequent intervention, with routine monitoring of membrane pressure and system performance. Membrane cleaning, along with servicing of other plant components, may be required to maintain reliable performance and extend system life.

Greenchain can provide ongoing maintenance and technical support to help keep your DI system performing reliably.
